Halton Rapids Vehicular & Pedestrian Access 2011/12 Print E-mail

Due to construction work being undertaken by Lancaster Cohousing at the former Luneside Engineering factory access to Halton Rapids is restricted over this winter. The riverbank is fenced off for 800 metres, the public footpath along the riverside is temporarily closed  and there is currently no vehicular access to the riverbank.  The top footpath will also be temporarily closed during November & December.  It is possible to gain access downstream from the rapids on the South Bank of the river near Denny Beck Bridge.  This will be the easiest point of access for this winter

We should be back using the North Bank (with new facilities) in November 2012.  In the meantime we would appreciate you co-operation, please comply with any requests from Lancaster Cohousing regarding access.

Regional Developments Print E-mail

There are a number of exciting developments in North West region that will increase the opportunities for paddling locally, and will also improve the facilities available.  These take a number of forms and this is just a summary of some of the projects currently underway.

If your club or organisation is currently expanding or working on other initiatives, please let us know!

Please find below a summary of the current facilities being developed for North West's paddlers.

Halton Rapids

If all goes to plan there will be a lease in place securing canoeing and facilities at the site for a minimum of 25 years.  Access to the facilities is likely to be daily from 9.00am to dusk.  Please note that access to the water remains the same, 1st November to 15th March plus occasional additional dates.

The facilities will include: -  Car Parking with easy access to the river via a short path leading from the car park down to the river where there will be wide steps suitable for launching large open boats, canoes and kayaks. This will also enable access to the river by paddlers of limited mobility. In the Mill building there will be toilets, showers and changing facilities.
